Decay rates of two tracer gases compared to DNA-tagged liquid aerosol tracer particles: Impact of varying dilution rate and filtration

Current gas-and aerosol-based tracers do not adequately simulate the emission and transport of liquid aerosols containing a pathogen indoors. To evaluate aerosol tracer synthetic DNA, was emitted in chamber to measure changes decay rates as outdoor air dilution rate filter rating varied. DNA concentration were compared size distributions two gases (CO2 SF6) characterize evolution particle distribution simulated by common change measurements. The effect ventilation on assessed at four using HEPA-filtered (0, 1.3, 2.5, 4.2 ACH), simultaneous impact filtration recirculated ACH) tested MERV8 MERV13 filters. concentrations decayed comparable 5–25 μm diameter.
